French teacher Aurore recently had the incredible privilege of attending the wedding of one of her adult learners in France. She was honoured to be invited, and it was a truly heart warming and unforgettable experience, as she goes on to explain….
“Eleonore, a young French woman, first came to the UK as an au pair at a friend’s house. It was there that she met William, a young Englishman. Their friendship blossomed into love despite challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, long distance, and post-Brexit regulations. Eventually, Eleonore was able to move to the UK.
“In the meantime, William reached out to me for French classes so he could better understand and communicate with Eleonore’s family when visiting France. William and Eleonore became regulars at our social events, where Eleonore was always incredibly supportive—enthusiastically speaking French with all the students, and encouraging them in their language journey.
“In December 2023, William contacted me with a special request: he wanted to prepare to ask Eleonore’s father for his blessing to marry her. He needed help with pronunciation to ensure his request would be clearly understood—all while keeping it a secret from Eleonore! It was such a touching moment to be part of, knowing that language learning played a key role in this heartfelt gesture.
“In January 2024, William proposed to Eleonore. Together, they bought a house and began their new chapter. Their wedding in France on March 22, 2025, was a beautifully thought-out event, with everything translated into both French and English so that all their loved ones could fully experience the touching speeches.
“One of the most emotional moments was when William and Eleonore exchanged their vows in each other’s language—a brave and deeply meaningful gesture that brought many to tears.
“I was incredibly moved to be included in their special day. This experience reinforced for me the profound impact that language learning can have—not just in communication but in building bridges between cultures, strengthening relationships, and creating lifelong memories. Their story is a true testament to the power of language and love.”
