Welcome to Language for Fun and French for Fun in Greenwich and Blackheath. We are a small, locally run language school and we pride ourselves on the personal approach. When you enquire about learning French with us, we talk to you personally and help you choose the best course, from French beginners to French Improvers or Advanced French. We won't just make you sign up online and take your money in advance - we'll let you pay for just one class and then you can decide if you want to carry on.
Our French courses in Blackheath and Greenwich are run in groups that are much smaller than other colleges. We have a highly structured curriculum which has been specifically designed for adult learners who want to learn French for fun as a hobby, and we focus on speaking and communication skills. You don't have to do homework unless you want to, and we are convinced that making friends and enjoying the social side is just as important as the progress you make.
Many of our groups end up as long term friends.
Our French Beginners course is perfect if you've never done any French before, but there are also the right courses for those who have done GCSE French or (O Level of course) and need to dust it off a bit! We go right through with our own bespoke curriculum to Advanced and beyond so there's something for you even if you are a hardened Francophile and want some advanced French conversation classes.

Hi! I graduated from Oxford uni with a first class degree in Spanish and French back in 2000, qualified as a language teacher shortly after,, and have been teaching Spanish, French and English ever since! I lived and worked in Spain for several years and learned to love the Spanish language and culture, liking nothing better than helping my fellow native English speakers to appreciate it too.
I've taught my language - and the languages I have learned - to the highly educated and the barely literate, to people in their eighties and toddlers still in nappies,to accomplished linguists and the truIy terrified, and I love adapting what I do to the needs and pace of my learners and watching everyone make progress (at their own speed) towards their personal goals, whether that be mastery or an easy-going hobby.
I firmly believe in lifelong language learning and in my free time I'm trying to improve my (basic) Mandarin Chinese and Italian. I may be fluent and qualified to teach French, Spanish and English, but I am still a beginner learner of Chinese and Italian, so I know how daunting learning a language can be and how important it is that the atmosphere and materials in a class are non-threatening, easily accessible, and thoughtfully designed, and what a difference it makes to have an approachable, understanding teacher.
I am confident that you'll love the experience of learning with Language for Fun, and can't wait to hear from you.
Bonjour! I grew up in the French countryside, near Poitiers. I lived and studied in the West of France until I graduated from a BA in English Literature and Linguistics. As part of my degree, I had the opportunity to do a year abroad in Aarhus, Denmark and when coming back, I realised I wanted to live abroad again. This led me to move to London about 4 years ago and I haven’t grown tired of it yet!
I have always been passionate about languages, I find the process of learning a language fascinating and thrilling. I have started learning 8 languages… just for the sake of learning them. I am fluent in French and English, I am currently learning Spanish and Bambara and have learned German, Italian, Arabic, Serbian and Danish in the past.
As much as I enjoy being a learner, during my undergraduate degree I developed a desire to know more about language as a system. That’s when I discovered linguistics and it’s been the greatest love of my life ever since. In London, I decided to deepen my understanding of how language works by enrolling in an MA in Sociocultural Linguistics, which I graduated from with Distinction in 2022. I have researched language and identity, language varieties and accents and discourse analysis.
I have academic as well as professional experience in linguistics, language teaching, translation and transcription. I have taught both English and French to learners of all ages, within and outside the classroom. I’ve worked as a language assistant, a private tutor and a linguistic consultant.
I am committed to approaching language in a non-prescriptive way and in celebrating rather than stigmatising all the varieties and accents that exist. I strongly believe in making a language yours as a learner, which I think comes first and foremost from motivation.
Have you ever wanted to learn French and know more about French and French-speaking countries cultures? Come and learn French in a relaxed, non-judgmental and fun way with me and motivated learners!
Hope to hear from you soon et à bientôt!
