Welcome to Italian for Fun in Greenwich and Blackheath!

All our classes are currently online, but we are hoping to get back to some face to face teaching in January.

Whatever the world looks like at that point, we're going to be offering new Absolute beginners' and Improver's courses which will DEFINITELY brighten up your life! What better way to start 2021 than by throwing yourself into learning a new skill with a group of lovely, likeminded people.

Groups will be limited to six people, so it's worth registering your interest early.

What are the classes like?

Our sessions are dynamic and lively.

We never make anyone speak Italian in front of the class if they don't want to, and yet in a typical lesson you get plenty of opportunities to speak to each other and practise what we're learning. Whether online or face to face, you get to practise with a partner so you're not put on the spot in front of everyone.

There's no pressure, no compulsory homework, no tests, no exams or unnecessary stress. We play lots of games, keep grammar to a minimum, talking in the language to a maximum, and definitely have fun!

Ciao! My name's Lili!
I was born in the US but raised in Italy for the majority of my life! I had to learn Italian from scratch as a child and learn about the rich traditional culture that makes Italy such a unique country.
Being able to communicate with others and understand the cultural subtext of a language have therefore always been a strong passion of mine!
I started teaching languages in Italy when I was 16 and I would teach anywhere I found people interested enough to learn. Whether it be through linguistic centres, private tutoring, public schools, children associations, you name it! Languages bring people together and help put oneself into perspective through the eyes of another culture. That's why I love teaching. I love people and learning through the students I get to meet. Which brings me to why I became interested in Language for Fun. The program is more focused on the importance and joy of communicating. It's not about how many words you can memorise, it's not about how complex you can get your grammar structures to be, it's about being able to get your message out. Which, I can assure you from experience, is possibly the most important key when learning a new language, and yet, a lot of courses seem to overlook that. Language for Fun promotes the same approach I would try my hardest to bring into my classes back home in Italy.
I look forward to meeting you, and hope to deliver the same love for the Italian language and culture I have, with all the tricks and facts that I learned over the years!
A presto!

Hi! I qualified as a language teacher back in 2000 and I've been teaching Spanish, French and English ever since! I lived and worked in Spain for several years and learned to love the Spanish language and culture, liking nothing better than helping my fellow native English speakers to appreciate it too.

I've taught my language - and the languages I have learned - to the highly educated and the barely literate, to people in their eighties and toddlers still in nappies,to accomplished linguists and the truIy terrified, and I love adapting what I do to the needs and pace of my learners and watching everyone make progress (at their own speed) towards their personal goals, whether that be mastery or an easy-going hobby.

I firmly believe in lifelong language learning and in my free time I'm trying to improve my (basic) Mandarin Chinese and Italian. I may be fluent and qualified to teach French, Spanish and English, but I am still a beginner learner of Chinese and Italian, so I know how daunting learning a language can be and how important it is that the atmosphere and materials in a class are non-threatening, easily accessible, and thoughtfully designed, and what a difference it makes to have an approachable, understanding teacher.

I am confident that you'll love the experience of learning with Language for Fun.

Ciao a tutti! I am a native Italian who has always been passionate about languages and travelling and I do believe that being able to speak the language of the place you are visiting makes the whole experience much richer, more authentic and fun.
I started learning English at primary school and went on to studying French and German at high school and then graduated in English and Spanish (language and literature) at university whilst moving to live in London where I have been for the past 16 years. I also left my comfort zone of European languages and attended an Arabic course, which was very interesting and fun, but challenging! Thanks to this course, I know what it means to start a language journey as a beginner!
My experience in teaching ranges from schoolchildren needing a hand with their homework, to university students struggling to pass their exams, to older people wanting to learn or improve a language for business or leisure. Regardless of their age and purpose for learning a language, I always encouraged my students to go beyond the textbooks and grammar exercises, and to have fun communicating. Grammar rules are necessary, but useless if you are afraid to communicate, so don't be shy and let's get talking!
