Welcome to Language for Fun and Spanish for Fun in Greenwich and Blackheath. We are a small, locally run language school and we pride ourselves on the personal approach. When you enquire about learning Spanish with us, we talk to you personally and help you choose the best course, from Spanish beginners to Spanish Improvers or Advanced Spanish. We won't just make you sign up online and take your money in advance - we'll let you pay for just one class and then you can decide if you want to carry on.
Our Spanish courses in Blackheath and Greenwich are run in groups that are much smaller than other colleges. We have a highly structured curriculum which has been specifically designed for adult learners who want to learn Spanish for fun as a hobby, and we focus on speaking and communication skills. You don't have to do homework unless you want to, and we are convinced that making friends and enjoying the social side is just as important as the progress you make.
Many of our groups end up as long term friends.
Our Spanish Beginners course is perfect if you've never done any Spanish before, but there are also the right courses for those who have done GCSE Spanish or (O Level of course) and need to dust it off a bit! We go right through with our own bespoke curriculum to Advanced and beyond so there's something for you even if you are a hardened hispanophile and want some advanced Spanish
conversation classes.
If you can't find the exact Spanish lessons you want advertised on our course listings, do get in touch as we have waiting lists for the less popular courses and also some availability for private Spanish classes.
I'm really proud of our local Blackheath and Greenwich business and I look forward to hearing from you in the hope that we can be a part of your Spanish speaking journey!
Hi! I graduated from Oxford uni with a first class degree in Spanish and French back in 2000, qualified as a language teacher shortly after,, and have been teaching Spanish, French and English ever since! I lived and worked in Spain for several years and learned to love the Spanish language and culture, liking nothing better than helping my fellow native English speakers to appreciate it too.
I've taught my language - and the languages I have learned - to the highly educated and the barely literate, to people in their eighties and toddlers still in nappies,to accomplished linguists and the truIy terrified, and I love adapting what I do to the needs and pace of my learners and watching everyone make progress (at their own speed) towards their personal goals, whether that be mastery or an easy-going hobby.
I firmly believe in lifelong language learning and in my free time I'm trying to improve my (basic) Mandarin Chinese and Italian. I may be fluent and qualified to teach French, Spanish and English, but I am still a beginner learner of Chinese and Italian, so I know how daunting learning a language can be and how important it is that the atmosphere and materials in a class are non-threatening, easily accessible, and thoughtfully designed, and what a difference it makes to have an approachable, understanding teacher.
I am confident that you'll love the experience of learning with Language for Fun, and can't wait to hear from you.
I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Barcelona, Spain, where I earned a degree in Humanities, specialising in history and literature. After graduating, I moved to Holland where I lived for a year before settling in the UK.
Languages have always been my passion. I remember learning English as a young teenager so I could understand and translate the songs of my favourite bands and, later on, diving into new languages so I could speak to those I met in my travels. Eventually, my love for languages led me to become a professional translator in 2007 and I have been translating for international organisations ever since. Last year, after many years of pondering, I decided to pursue an itching desire that had been in my heart for very long – teaching! And that is why I became a qualified Spanish teacher.
As a Spaniard living in London, I have had many opportunities to share my love for my native languages, Spanish and Catalan, to friends and anyone who might be interested. From my experience of traveling to new countries for the first time and wanting to speak to the locals, I understand the uneasiness that might come when trying to communicate in a language you don’t speak at all or well enough. You might even have some knowledge in your head, but when it’s the time to use it, nothing comes out! That is why I particulary like Language for Fun’s approach, which focuses on the communication aspect of learning a language, instead of trying to memorise never-ending vocabulary lists.
Learning new languages opens your mind as it is not just about learning words or grammar rules, but also about discovering new cultures and perspectives. It opens doors to experiences and connections you would otherwise not have and can even improve your memory and concentration!
Would you like to speak with the locals next time you go on holiday to Spain? Or have a conversation in Spanish next time you meet someone from South America? Come and join one of our friendly groups! I hope to meet you soon. ¡Hasta pronto!
