We have a highly structured curriculum which has been specifically designed for adult learners who want to learn Spanish for fun as a hobby, and we focus on speaking and communication skills. You don't have to do homework unless you want to, and we are convinced that making friends and enjoying the social side is just as important as the progress you make.
Many of our groups end up as long term friends.
Our Spanish Beginners course is perfect if you've never done any Spanish before, but there are also the right courses for those who have done GCSE Spanish or (O Level of course) and need to dust it off a bit! We go right through with our own bespoke curriculum to Advanced and beyond so there's something for you even if you are a hardened hispanophile and want some advanced Spanish
conversation classes.
Hi! I graduated from Oxford uni with a first class degree in Spanish and French back in 2000, qualified as a language teacher shortly after,, and have been teaching Spanish, French and English ever since! I lived and worked in Spain for several years and learned to love the Spanish language and culture, liking nothing better than helping my fellow native English speakers to appreciate it too.
I've taught my language - and the languages I have learned - to the highly educated and the barely literate, to people in their eighties and toddlers still in nappies,to accomplished linguists and the truIy terrified, and I love adapting what I do to the needs and pace of my learners and watching everyone make progress (at their own speed) towards their personal goals, whether that be mastery or an easy-going hobby.
I firmly believe in lifelong language learning and in my free time I'm trying to improve my (basic) Mandarin Chinese and Italian. I may be fluent and qualified to teach French, Spanish and English, but I am still a beginner learner of Chinese and Italian, so I know how daunting learning a language can be and how important it is that the atmosphere and materials in a class are non-threatening, easily accessible, and thoughtfully designed, and what a difference it makes to have an approachable, understanding teacher.
I am confident that you'll love the experience of learning with Language for Fun, and can't wait to hear from you.
Hola,
Ever since growing up in Spain and going on family holidays to the beautiful Spanish and Portuguese coasts I have loved learning languages to stay connected with all the friends I made there. Later, my love for books and other cultures led me to study at the University of Salamanca in Spain, where I graduated in English Language and Literature. it was through university that I could follow my dream of visiting the UK. Here I completed my education with a teaching postgraduate course in Spanish and French and have since loved teaching Spanish in different settings, schools, and colleges. Little did I know that I would end up marrying and having my family here and that my life would be linked to this country forever.
As a life- long learner, languages conversation and culture have always been very important for me, and this is very much reflected in my teaching style. I find that Language for Fun focuses precisely on this aspect, and it is a wonderful way to socialize and open new perspectives. Besides, it is also an excellent way to develop the creative side of the brain and cognition. No matter the reason you choose to learn Spanish with Language for Fun, the guarantied outcome is that you will not only have fun and meet new people, but that I will be with you helping you along your wonderful journey into Spanish.
I was born in Bilbao in the north of Spain, within the Basque country, known for its delicious seafood and green landscapes. You should all visit!!. From a young age, I was fascinated with languages, I remember my aspiration to translate Abba songs into English. I learnt English at school but not being the focus on practical communication, when I arrived to the UK at the age of 18, I found myself at a loss, unable to comprehend much. So I truly sympathise with the struggle trying to understand a language that you speak little.
After completing a Computing Science degree at the University of Greenwich, I worked in the field until the arrival of my children. It was during this period that my interest in languages was rekindled and I started teaching Spanish to children and teenagers, GCSE and A-level, as it gave me flexibility around my family. I have intermittently been tutoring for nearly twenty years. I've tutored people of all ages, finding great satisfaction in seeing them succeed and become fluent communicators.
I feel passionate about the Spanish language, not only because of my origins, but because I deeply believe how enriching learning a second language can be. This passion is passed on to my students and I encourage them to learn for life in order to become confident in their ability to communicate and reach their full potential. Learning a second language is not only enjoyable, it can develop new areas of your mind and strengthen your brain's natural ability to focus. Language for Fun emphasis is in communication and speaking, which is what you really need. Come, join us, learn and have fun.
