Bonjour! Welcome to French for Fun South Downs. We run lovely, lively French lessons for adults at a range of different levels in the Pulborough area.
The focus is on communication, not perfection, and classes are small, relaxed and fun. There are no exams and there is no compulsory homework. The carefully structured programme has been designed for adult learners and each session focuses on building confidence and feeling comfortable chatting to others in French on a whole range of topics.
There are courses at all levels; maybe you already have GCSE (or O Level) French and are looking to pick it up and dust it off or maybe you want to start from the very beginning. Even if you are a fully-fledged Francophile and are looking for some advanced French conversation classes, we can help you too.
Taster sessions are available so that you can ‘try before you buy’ before you commit to a course.
If you have any questions or are unsure which level will suit you best, please send an online enquiry or an email (or just give me a call!) and I will be happy to help. See below for contact details.
Bonjour! I studied French at the University of Manchester which included a year spent working in Clermont Ferrand among the volcanos of the Auvergne which is where I really fell in love with France and all things French.
After my degree I taught English at the University of Dijon for a couple of years before returning to the UK and obtaining a Modern Languages PGCE from Goldsmiths, University of London. I then spent 10 years teaching French in secondary schools in Kent, Sussex and Guernsey.
I took a break from teaching in 2005 and used my language skills in the corporate world for a couple of years. While working for a law firm in the City I met my now husband and we decided to move to France.
In 2007, on the day after our wedding, we set off across the channel in an ancient Triumph with a rather leaky tent and very little luggage to find a house. A few months later we settled next to a boulangerie in a village on the river Vienne near Poitiers. Our son was born the following year. We taught English and made a lot of French friends who we were very sad to leave when we came back to Sussex in 2013.
On our return I started teaching at a local Prep school which I left in July 2025. I have taught learners aged from 4 up to 84 from all sorts of backgrounds each with their own story. I love sharing my linguistic and cultural knowledge, getting to know my learners, building their confidence and seeing them progress.
Search through our extensive range of courses to find the perfect course for you! Choose from Beginners, Improvers, Intermediate and Advanced courses.
If you don't see the perfect course for you, scroll to the bottom of the page to find your nearest language schools and ask the local franchisee if they could start a class on a day or time to suit you.
Some of our learners have been with us for 15 years! Be patient with yourself - the process of learning a language is never complete but each term you should be that bit more confident to use your newfound skills and get the most out of your travels.
