Bonjour! Welcome to French for Fun South Downs. We will be running lovely, lively French lessons for adults at a range of different levels in the Pulborough area starting in September 2025.
The focus is on communication, not perfection, and classes are small, relaxed and fun. There are no exams and there is no compulsory homework. The carefully structured programme has been designed for adult learners and each session focuses on building confidence and feeling comfortable chatting to others in French on a whole range of topics.
There will be courses at all levels; maybe you already have GCSE (or O Level) French and are looking to pick it up and dust it off or maybe you want to start from the very beginning. Even if you are a fully-fledged Francophile and are looking for some advanced French conversation classes, we can help you too.
Taster sessions are available so that you can ‘try before you buy’ before you commit to a course.
If you have any questions or are unsure which class would suit you best, please send an online enquiry or an email (or just give me a call!) and I will be happy to help. See below for contact details.
Bonjour! I originally studied French at the University of Manchester which included a year spent working in Clermont Ferrand among the volcanos of the Auvergne. This is where I really fell in love with France and all things French. After my degree I taught English at the University of Dijon for a couple of years before returning to the UK and obtaining a Modern Languages PGCE from Goldsmiths, University of London. I then spent 10 years teaching French in secondary schools in Kent, Sussex and Guernsey.
In 2007, on the day after our wedding, my husband and I set off in an ancient Triumph with a rather leaky tent and very little luggage to find and buy a house in France. A few months later we settled next door to a Boulangerie in a village on the river Vienne near Poitiers. Our son was born 12 months later. We taught English and embraced all aspects of rural life in France. We made a lot of French friends who we were very sad to leave when we came back to Sussex in 2013. We keep in touch.
Since then, I have been teaching in a Prep school and I also tutor private GCSE and A level students. I have taught learners aged from 4 up to 84. I love sharing my linguistic and cultural knowledge, getting to know my learners and building their confidence. Having recently left the classroom behind for the last time, I am very excited to be joining the Language for Fun community and to be starting a new French adventure.
Search through our extensive range of courses to find the perfect course for you! Choose from Beginners, Improvers, Intermediate and Advanced courses.
If you don't see the perfect course for you, scroll to the bottom of the page to find your nearest language schools and ask the local franchisee if they could start a class on a day or time to suit you.
Some of our learners have been with us for 15 years! Be patient with yourself - the process of learning a language is never complete but each term you should be that bit more confident to use your newfound skills and get the most out of your travels.
