French - Improver

The adult classes provided by Cheryl have been superb. The evening adult French classes have a lovely relaxed and friendly vibe helping to cultivate a robust learning environment, with the option of enjoying these sessions with a wee glass of wine.

I have always had a notion to try and learn french and build on the little of the language I had learned at school many years ago. I was a bit hesitant at first to take the plunge especially as the pandemic meant it had to be on zoom. However Cheryl soon put me at ease and I have found the course to be very informative, educational and most importantly fun. You do not ever feel you are under any pressure to perform and each lesson takes place in a relaxed, easy manner. If you want to learn french, have a few laughs and meet new people, I would certainly recommend Cheryl’s classes.

I was keen to improve my conversational French, as I seriously lacked confidence when it came to speaking the language and I did not possess a good ear when people spoke to me in French. I decided to sign up for an online course with Cheryl Strange, Language for Fun, Scotland. I must admit I was apprehensive at meeting with a group of strangers and having to attempt to speak French in front of them but I need not have worried. I was immediately made to feel very welcome and in turn I relaxed very quickly. The course was an excellent mixture of learning new vocabulary, writing in French and most importantly conversing in French. I already feel I am gaining confidence. We are now due to commence our Spring/Summer ten week course, which will take the form of a face to face meeting this time within a lovely cosy pub. I can hardly wait!!

During our last tutorial - our tenth - Cheryl asked us to translate into French many of the words and phrases we'd covered during the previous nine weeks - and we absolutely nailed it. What a brilliant teacher - and a lovely person.

I have started my journey to learn French with Cheryl who could not be a better tutor, she is patient and takes time to explain things really well and tailors the lessons to my situation making them more realistic. The added benefit of the online material helps embed the lessons The bonus of having real time face to face tuition is really homing in on the pronunciation and going at the right pace to embed the learning. I would thoroughly recommend Cheryl to anyone looking to gain French language skills and I look forward to continuing my journey with her.

Cheryl is a fantastic teacher who does teach ‘lovely, lively language lessons’. The format suits me perfectly as the words and phrases are so relevant and useful, and the variety of exercises allow me to enjoy working on all aspects of my French language learning.

Following my previous review i am still enjoying my classes with Cheryl and continue to build on my knowledge and skill in the french language. The classes are informal and friendly and as well as learning the french language, Cheryl, with her experiences of living in France, also gives us an insight into french customs and culture. I have also made some lovely new friends.

A small group of “more mature” students more than slightly nervous about diving back in to a foreign language after so many years. No problem! Cheryl made everyone feel very welcome and relaxed about joining in. Everyone is happy to pitch in with answers knowing they are in a safe learning environment where it really doesn’t matter if you get it wrong first time - you will learn at the right place. It really is enjoyable.

These adult face to face lessons are delivered in a relaxed, friendly and enjoyable environment. Cheryl's teaching methods have developed my abilities more so than traditional classroom based evening classes. I would recommend these classes highly.
