those who either have no prior knowledge of French or those who did French at school a long time ago and who have forgotten almost everything.
In this mini-unit (which is the first six lessons only of the full-length Beginners 1 unit) we will cover numbers 1-60, greetings, enquiries about general wellbeing, polite phrases, personal introductions, basic personal info and shopping for simple picnic/breakfast items. You will learn the ‘I’ and ‘you’ form of several verbs but you will learn the present tense in full of the verbs ‘to be’ and ‘to have’. You will learn lots of little words to put in front of nouns like ‘the’, ‘a’, ‘some’ and ‘my’. You will learn how to change a positive statement into a negative one and how to change a statement into a question. You will also learn about French culture which is always fun.
Between Easter and Whit, there will be an opportunity to go on to a second mini-unit which is the remaining three lessons from the full-length Beginners 1 unit along with the three lessons from the full-length Beginners 2 unit that are to do with eating in restaurants and at the homes of French friends. Also numbers 60-1001
Between Whit and mid-July, there will be a opportunity to go on to a third mini-unit which is the six lessons of the full-length Beginners 2 unit that are to do with getting around town and local area on foot, in a car or by public transport. Also ordinal numbers and the French alphabet.
Since my first of many twinning exchange trips to the Loire Valley in France and to the Ruhr Valley in Germany in my teens, I have always loved foreign languages, cultures and people (and of course the food and drink too). As part of my university studies, I spent eight months in Lorraine on the border with Belgium and Luxembourg, four months in Nordrhein-Westfalen on the border with the Netherlands and four months in the city of Lyon. Having only started learning Spanish as an adult, I have not spent extensive amounts of time in Spain but I have holidayed there as well as in Peru. Before becoming a licencee with Language for Fun, I taught for twelve years in secondary schools, including one in Zambia near the border with French-speaking Congo. I have had many adventures in many Francophone, Germanophone and Hispanophone countries where my language 'skills' have both saved the day AND got me into a bit of hot water! Let me use MY cringeworthy past experiences of making hilarious mistakes save YOU from doing the same.
When I am not teaching or learning languages (I speak some Dutch and Italian now too), I enjoy swimming, reading and walking but I am particularly passionate about the performing arts; I think you will be able to tell this when you meet me! I look forward to meeting YOU!
