real beginners with no prior Spanish knowledge. The course starts with the basics – a, b, c and 1, 2, 3 – but it builds up quickly to short conversations based on your real life. You’ll learn how to greet people, introduce yourself and others, go shopping and out for dinner, and by the end of the day, you’ll be amazed at what you’ve learnt!
The Beginners 1 ‘Course in a Day’ is taught on a Saturday (9.30am – 5.30pm), so it’s perfect if you’re not able to commit to a weekly class, if you want to kickstart your Spanish learning journey before a summer holiday, or if you want to do a review of the basics of the language, if you haven’t done any Spanish for a while.
Every lesson has time for conversation in pairs and small groups, to help you grow in confidence speaking to others, and we also adapt and personalize the conversations on each topic.
Classes are fun, laid back and relaxed and you’ll never be asked to speak in front of the class if you don’t want to. You’ll have access to the VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) with recap clips and revision quizzes to use at home to continue learning and revising what we learn on the day
Rachel is an award-winning teacher, who has been teaching Spanish to children and adults in the Glasgow area for the past 6 years. She grew up in Glasgow and gained an honours degree in Economics at Glasgow Univeristy, before going to Seville to gain her certificate in 'Teaching English as a Foreign Language' (TEFL) Soon after that, she moved to Bolivia, where she lived for 9 years, speaking Spanish every day, while working with children and families in a local community project that supported families through education, health, sports, and community work.
On her return to the UK in 2011, she spent 7 years working with Glasgow Women's Aid, supporting children and young people who had experienced domestic abuse, and volunteering at the Glasgow City Mission, working with women who experienced homelessness, addiction, isolation, and mental health difficulties. In 2017, she started teaching Spanish to children (age 0-11) with La Jolie Ronde and she is currently teaching around 200 children a week in after-school and weekend clubs. In 2018 she added adult classes to her timetable, and she currently teaches Beginners, Improvers, Intermediate and Advanced classes.
She has a 5-year-old boy, who is bilingual, so her days are spent speaking Spanish at home, as well as in class!
Rachel has won numerous awards for her teaching business in the past few years, and her most recent national award wins include, ‘Most Loved Activity Provider in Scotland and Northern Ireland’ (Nov 2022), and 'Remarkable Achievement' award (Nov 2023) at the What's on 4 Kids awards, for the growth of her business, and the fundraising she is involved in with her children and adults classes.
She also won the 'Acing Adversity' award at the Single Mums' Business Network Awards in Gloucester (Nov 2022), 'Against All Odds' at the Family Network Awards in Surrey (March 2023), and 'Franchisee of the Year' at the Business Success Awards in Birmingham (June 2023)
Rachel loves Spanish and is passionate about promoting language learning to all ages, in a relaxed, fun, and interactive environment!
