those who live locally and who would like to attend most lessons in person but who know they will be away for one or two lessons and would like to attend these online. It is for those who have NO or almost no prior knowledge of French. In this unit we cover numbers 1-100, greetings, enquiries about general wellbeing, polite phrases, personal introductions, basic personal info and shopping for simple picnic/breakfast items.

I will get you speaking with a good French accent as I have lots of pronunciation tips based on having studied phonetics, having done a fair amount of acting and on having had to take two of my four children to speech and language therapy!

I will also have some funny stories of my mistakes in French in the past so that you know that I too was one a beginner like you!

If I don’t get three signer-uppers for this level, then it will become another level of French or Spanish lesson. I am flexible!

Beginner - Level 1 Course Information
Starting Date: 06/05/2024
Lesson Duration: 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
My preferred schedule would be for ten consecutive lessons. However, I know that some people may prefer not to be taught in the evening of a Bank Holidays and so I can teach any ten Mondays from May 6th to July 29th inclusive; whatever suits enquirers/signer-uppers best. If I do not get at least three people enquiring for Beginners 1 French, it will not run as such but rather become another level of French or Spanish. I am flexible (and can start the lesson up to an hour earlier if needed) So, if you are really keen, best get your wishes in fast!

About

Since my first of many twinning exchange trips to the Loire Valley in France and to the Ruhr Valley in Germany in my teens, I have always loved foreign languages, cultures and people (and of course the food and drink too). As part of my university studies, I spent eight months in Lorraine on the border with Belgium and Luxembourg, four months in Nordrhein-Westfalen on the border with the Netherlands and four months in the city of Lyon. Having only started learning Spanish as an adult, I have not spent extensive amounts of time in Spain but I have holidayed there as well as in Peru. Before becoming a licencee with Language for Fun, I taught for twelve years in secondary schools, including one in Zambia near the border with French-speaking Congo. I have had many adventures in many Francophone, Germanophone and Hispanophone countries where my language 'skills' have both saved the day AND got me into a bit of hot water! Let me use MY cringeworthy past experiences of making hilarious mistakes save YOU from doing the same.
When I am not teaching or learning languages (I speak some Dutch and Italian now too), I enjoy swimming, reading and walking but I am particularly passionate about the performing arts; I think you will be able to tell this when you meet me! I look forward to meeting YOU!
