Quote Icon This course is ideal for:

those who did the LFF Beginner 1 and 2 units recently; those who have done a bit of French learning with Duolingo or another online method and now want a HUMAN TEACHER who can EXPLAIN language properly to them; those who did French to a higher level than this at school (O Level/GCSE) but a long time ago and want to go back and begin again from a manageable starting point that is not as basic as greetings and introductions. In this unit we will cover: holiday destinations (countries, regions, towns, types of territory, compass points), travel, duration of stay, booking travel tickets, accommodation and activities, dealing with possible problems on holiday (illness, loss, theft, car breakdown etc)

This course is also ideal for those who want the option of joining in with lessons in person most weeks and from a distance via Zoom occasionally.

This course does not have to be at Beginners 3 level. It can be at any other level of French that gets ‘3+ signer-uppers’ or it can be a Spanish class. It can possibly be earlier in the evening too. Enquire away; I am pretty flexible up to a point… more flexible than the website edition programme allows me to be!

If this course is the right timing but the wrong level for you, please know that, as this class is not yet ‘on the go’, it can be any level or language I want it to be. Please enquire anyway because I will start this course at the language and level of those who are the most keen. FYI Beginners 1, 2 and 3 all cover the kind of grammar (but not necessarily topics) that I did with Year 7/8s when I was a secondary school teacher, Beginners Refresher and Improvers 1 levels were Year8/9  grammar level, Improvers 2 and 2+ were Years 9/10 and Improvers 3 was Year 10/11 and Intermediate Introduction was a good top set Year 11.

Beginner - Level 1 Course Information
Starting Date: 08/05/2024
Lesson Duration: 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm
My preferred dates for lessons would be ten consecutive Wednesdays with the last one on July 10th and a contingency date of July 17th. However, I am around and available to teach until July 31 and so there can be a LITTLE flexibility with dates if you tell me your availability. I can make the lesson start time 15 or 30 minutes earlier, although I know that people that work in London often like to start at 8pm.

About

Since my first of many twinning exchange trips to the Loire Valley in France and to the Ruhr Valley in Germany in my teens, I have always loved foreign languages, cultures and people (and of course the food and drink too). As part of my university studies, I spent eight months in Lorraine on the border with Belgium and Luxembourg, four months in Nordrhein-Westfalen on the border with the Netherlands and four months in the city of Lyon. Having only started learning Spanish as an adult, I have not spent extensive amounts of time in Spain but I have holidayed there as well as in Peru. Before becoming a licencee with Language for Fun, I taught for twelve years in secondary schools, including one in Zambia near the border with French-speaking Congo. I have had many adventures in many Francophone, Germanophone and Hispanophone countries where my language 'skills' have both saved the day AND got me into a bit of hot water! Let me use MY cringeworthy past experiences of making hilarious mistakes save YOU from doing the same.
When I am not teaching or learning languages (I speak some Dutch and Italian now too), I enjoy swimming, reading and walking but I am particularly passionate about the performing arts; I think you will be able to tell this when you meet me! I look forward to meeting YOU!
