learners who already have some experience of Spanish (or have completed Beg 1-4 classes) and are comfortable using the present tense. This class will use real-life conversations to help your grammar, build your vocabulary and introduce the future tense.
Classes are fun, laid back and relaxed and every lesson has lots of time for conversation and translation exercises in small groups to help you grow in confidence speaking to others.
Rachel grew up in Glasgow and gained an honours degree in Economics at Glasgow Univeristy, before going to Seville to gain her certificate in 'Teaching English as a Foreign Language' (TEFL) Soon after that, she moved to Bolivia, where she lived for 9 years, speaking Spanish every day, while working with children and families in a Christian Community Project that supported local families though education, health, sports and community work.
On her return to the UK in 2011, she spent 7 years working with Glasgow Women's Aid, supporting children and young people who had experienced domestic abuse, and volunteering at the Glasgow City Mission. In 2017, she started teaching Spanish to children (age 0-11) with La Jolie Ronde and is currently teaching around 200 children a week in after school and weekend clubs. She has a 3 year old boy, who is bilingual, so her days are spent speaking Spanish at home as well as in class!
She won La Jolie Ronde's 'Licensee of the Year' (in Scotland and the North of England) in 2019, Franchisee of the Year at the national Club Hub Awards in 2021, and this year she was finalist again at the Club Hub Awards 2022, and she is in the final of the Best Businesswomen Awards in Septemeber 2022, in the category 'Best Businesswomen Working with Children and Families'. She is also nominated in the What's on 4 Kids awards for 'Most loved activity provider in Scotland and N. Ireland' and 'Remarkable Acheivement' award, for the fundraising she is involved in with her children's classes.
Rachel loves Spanish and is passionate about promoting language learning to all ages! As she learnt the language from scratch in Bolivia when she first moved there, she understands what it’s like to learn Spanish as a beginner. She started teaching adults over 4 years ago with 'Language for Fun' and she is excited to have the opportunity to add to her growing children's classes and teach Spanish to adults also - it's never too late to learn a new language!
