… you if you have done some French before so you are not, strictly speaking, a Beginner.  Maybe you are feeling a little rusty or under confident but with a bit of a boost would probably know most of your numbers and be able to hold a basic conversation in French ? On a Thursday morning we focus on communicating more independently; on increasing the speed of our spoken French; on accuracy around those tricky little words in French; on asking questions to find out more and then (crucially) upon understanding the answer. All within the context of talking about ourselves and daily life in France and on practical topics such a navigating around town, eating out, checking in to hotels and dealing with car breakdowns. And, as in all our Language for Fun in North Essex classes, there is a focus on not just what we are learning but how we are learning it – the skills of learning a language; of committing learning to memory; of recalling it quickly; manipulating it for new purposes and of using our learning to effectively communicate.

What's included?
  • All learner worksheets and access to our accompanying online videos that support and reinforce learning at home
  • A cuppa (or sometimes a cheeky verre de vin) and a piece of homemade cake each lesson - we find cake pretty crucial here for learning a language !
  • Individual catch up sessions wherever possible if you have missed a class
  • An invitation to an optional termly social event, usually at a local pub and usually involving lots of fun !
  • Invitations to optional Pay What You Want holiday classes to meet up and practice your French in a relaxed way between the 10 week terms (and to eat more cake !)

About

Bonjour. Hola. Salut. Buenas dias. Coucou. Encantado. Enchanté

Whether you're wanting to learn Spanish or French to better communicate when on holiday; for business purposes; for a move abroad or for the pure pleasure of it, I'd love to help you. Whether you are a little rusty and looking for a refresh; whether you're OK when reading it but nervous about speaking or whether you are looking to be stretched and challenged, I'd love to help you. Whether you are 18 or 89 or anywhere in between (or beyond), I'd love to help you. And with a degree in French, Spanish, German and Italian; university qualifications gained in France and Spain; a Post Graduate Certificate in Education and over 20 years experience in education as a secondary teacher, as a Modern Language adviser for other teachers and as a coach for adult learners, I reckon I know how to !

From my very first visit to Europe as a young child (where I was entranced by the acres of golden sunflower fields - still my favourite flower - in Southern France, en route in a rusty banger with my family to Mojacar in Spain); through my time spent living and studying in both Valencia and Lyon and my two decades of experience in language education until now, I've been passionate about all things French and Francophone and all things Spanish and Hispanophone. I enjoy nothing more than helping my fellow English native speakers luxuriate in the linguistic and cultural joys of La Belle France or La Bella Espana.

Having learned several languages myself, particularly Spanish which I learned on the ground in Valencia, I know just how fantastically rewarding being able to communicate in another language can be - however little you can at first convey. But I have not forgotten how utterly daunting it can feel too. I pride myself on making each of my lovely learners feel very much at ease - through lots of fun activities and laughter (and a hefty slice of cake) - so that quickly they feel comfortable enough to have a go at getting their message across in French or Spanish. And then in return get that buzz from understanding what is said back !

If you want to experience exactly how we do it here at Language for Fun in North Essex, please get in touch to arrange your complimentary and no obligation visit. We'd love to meet you (and we always have cake !)
